Software

phpBB 3.0.x

The forum will run on phpBB, an open-source forum written in php. phpBB contains the barebones of a typical forum but doesn't offer a lot comapred to invision or vbulletin. The extra features will have to be manually coded, maintained, and implemented into phpBB.

Discussion

This project will likely consist of taking an existing PHP forum system (ex. PHPbb or even Reddit), and repurposing it. (So we don't have to reinvent the wheel. Also, being able to take an existing application and change it is a great learning experience.) If anyone can find a nice MVC-based PHP forum, that'd be awesome! — Raf

I don't think too many people would use the forum. The engineering facebook group isn't even that hot. — Jimmy

Though I may agree that the forums may not be active because the facebook group wasn't, but what if we get all the forums of smaller clubs and organizations, and centralize all communication. Then we can get some activity going on. However we will have to set rules on bordering communication between sub-forums. Some clubs may not like to manage and maintain forum software on their own, and leave that hassle to us :) Larger organizations such as CESA may keep their own forums. The facebook groups are usually spammed with used textbook sales and advertisements and propaganda of other clubs; this will be strictly enforced on the forums. — Alberto Leal
